Can’t I find an excellent therapist in my medical plan?

Many people think that mental health services are just like Medical Services. They believe that since many medical doctors accept their insurance (and  they only have to pay a co-pay) that the same applies in Mental Health Services. Not True!

The most experienced therapists/Psychologists are out of network (meaning they are not accepting what your insurance is willing to pay). If you believe that more experience equates to better therapy, then unless you have no choice financially, you would choose the most qualified therapist to see. Often people say, aren’t there good therapists who are in my network? Maybe, but good luck finding them. The therapists who do accept what most insurances are willing to pay are either young and not very experienced (possibly just starting out in practice) or are just outright bad. The poor therapists need a constant flow of new patients since they lose their existing patients more frequently, and thus need to accept what insurance companies offer to fill time slots.
